Garmin almost never talks about the silicon inside its watches, so this paragraph, buried in this morning’s Fenix 9 press release, is a notable announcement from the company:
Navigate confidently with built-in routable maps that are smoother and more intuitive than ever before. With 50% more RAM than fēnix 8 and a more powerful, updated map engine, panning is now up to 30% faster. And a new perspective view allows users to better anticipate what’s coming next by adding more detail, both close-up and further away.
The old chip: four years of the NXP RT595
Teardowns identified the Fenix 8’s main SoC as the NXP i.MX RT595 (part MRT595SFF0C), the exact same chip Garmin used in the 2022 Fenix 7X. It is a dual-core low-power design: an Arm Cortex-M33 main core paired with a Cadence Xtensa Fusion F1 DSP for audio, plus an integrated 200 MHz 2D GPU. Critically, it carries just 5 MB of on-chip SRAM and no external RAM — that little pool of memory is what held map data during rendering. Older watches like the Fenix 6X (16 MB) and the original Epix (32 MB) actually had more RAM in separate external chips, which Garmin dropped for power savings from the Fenix 7 onward.
Owners noticed
Map speed was the one place the old chip could not hide, and the Garmin Forums have been saying so for two years:
“I purchased the Fenix 8 AMOLED 51 mm and I noticed a very terrible lag when I scroll maps.”
“Would not have bought this watch if I had knew it was the same old processor (4 years old?). Strange reviewers are not talking about this more.”
From a second thread on navigation lag:
“This watch is horrible for panning and redrawing maps. WAY slower than my Epix 2 that I sold to buy it.”
“Sometimes the map tiles take several good seconds to render on the screen.”
Garmin tried to claw back speed in software — beta 22.29 in May 2026 specifically targeted laggy panning and zooming — but forum users who pressed support were told the scrolling speed was, in one user’s retelling, “as good as it’s going to get.” On this hardware, it probably was.



The new one
Garmin is not naming the chip in the Fenix 9, but it does say the watch has 50% more RAM than the Fenix 8. Against the RT595’s 5 MB, that works out to exactly 7.5 MB — which is precisely the amount of on-chip SRAM in the NXP i.MX RT700, the RT595’s direct successor. NXP announced the RT700 in September 2024 with wearables squarely in mind: a faster 325 MHz Cortex-M33 main core, a new vector graphics GPU with hardware PNG and JPEG decoding, and a 30–70% cut in power draw over the outgoing generation. Garmin has not confirmed the part, but it makes sense as it comes from the same chip family Garmin has built on since the Fenix 7, and two years is plenty of time to design it into a flagship.
What it buys you
The gains Garmin has put numbers on, all software-visible in the maps:
- Panning up to 30% faster than the Fenix 8, per the press release.
- Round-trip route calculation 40% faster than the Fenix 8 Pro — enter a distance, and the watch builds a loop back to the start in under half the wait.
- Fluid zooming between map levels, shown on the livestream as continuous scaling rather than stepped redraws.
- Perspective view, a new mode that adds detail both close-up and further away so you can see what is coming next on the route.

Today Garmin launched the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro and added two new pieces to real-time stamina: a stamina curve and stamina zones. They sit on the stamina feature Garmin already had. The details are on Garmin’s running-science page.
Garmin’s press release says the new tracking shows how endurance changes over time based on fitness gains and training history, and that it is meant to help you pace during an activity.



Real-time stamina is a 0–100% reading of how much you have left at your current effort. Hard work — sprints, climbs, attacks — drains it faster. Potential stamina is also 0–100%, but it tracks longer-lasting fatigue: muscle damage, nervous-system fatigue, and glycogen depletion. If you have not recovered from the last session, potential does not start at 100%.
At a steady moderate effort, the two stay close. Go above lactate threshold when running, or FTP when cycling, and stamina falls faster than potential. Ease back, and stamina can climb toward potential again.
Stamina curve
The stamina curve estimates how long your stamina can hold different effort levels. Easy work drains it slowly. Near-max work drains it quickly. Garmin says the curve changes as your training changes.
On the Play Harder livestream, Garmin said the curve uses all of your training, updates over time, and gives predictions across any distance. The official page puts that in more detail: running uses pace, cycling uses power, and the model looks at energy use, training load, work above lactate threshold, VO2 max, lactate threshold or FTP, and how well you hold long efforts.



Garmin says the curve is for planning and review: race pacing, checking whether a workout intensity is realistic, and seeing whether endurance has moved. Predictions assume you are recovered and pacing is steady. Variable effort can drain stamina faster. Estimates are most accurate up to VO2 max effort.
Stamina zones
Stamina zones take that same model and split effort into five personalized ranges, from easy to maximal. The zone count stays at five. The pace or power in each zone moves as fitness changes. Running uses lactate threshold pace and VO2 max. Cycling uses FTP and VO2 max.
During an activity, the zones are there so you can stay on the intended effort. Afterward you can see time in each zone and how that lined up with stamina drop. The livestream Connect screen labeled the five as Easy, Moderate, Comfortably Hard, Hard, and Maximum.

Today, with the launch of the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro, Garmin also announced a new feature called Garmin Epic. It is a free Garmin Connect feature that groups multiple recorded activities into one story. Garmin has an official Garmin Epic technology page with the full details, and there is now a Garmin Epic page on Garmin Wiki. Whether it is a backpacking trip, a cycling stage race, or a strength training plan, Epic turns those activities into one record in Connect. You group activities recorded over several days, weeks, or months, then see the health and performance data from that stretch, add photos, and share it.



The official graphic uses a Tour du Mont Blanc hike as the example. Connect shows an Overview with the full route on a map, a written summary, and daily notes. A Reports tab shows sleep score, resting heart rate, and HRV status for the same dates. The watch shows the Epic duration, how many activities are in it, total distance, and active calories, plus a split by activity type.
On the Play Harder livestream, Garmin said an Epic can run up to 92 days. During that window it keeps cumulative distance and calories. It also includes sleep, recovery, and HRV status. The Connect timeline from the stream shows daily notes, photos, and the individual activities stacked in one feed.

Garmin launched the Fenix 9 Pro this morning. We will break down the similarities and differences to its predecessors, the Fenix 8 Pro and Fenix 8, across the 43 mm, 47 mm, and 51 mm sizes. Fenix 9 Pro and Fenix 9 Pro inReach are the same watch except for the subscription radios — inReach and LTE sit on the inReach versions only.
The software additions are the same across all sizes. That includes Garmin Epic Groups, a new activity tracking and sharing feature, and the improved mapping engine. On the livestream, Garmin said map panning is 30% faster than the Fenix 8 and round-trip routing is 40% faster than the Fenix 8 Pro.



Same features, three sizes
Every Fenix 9 Pro has the same software and sensors, regardless of size. That includes Elevate Gen 5, speaker and mic, and the rest of the Pro feature set, including on MIP Solar. What changes by size is the case, the weight, and the battery. The 51 mm AMOLED is the only model with a 1.5-inch display. MIP Solar is sold in 47 mm and 51 mm. There is no 43 mm Solar.

47 mm: thickness is 13.8 mm, the same as the Fenix 8
The 47 mm Fenix 8 is 13.8 mm thick. The Fenix 8 Pro added LTE and inReach, and the 47 mm case went to 16 mm — 2.2 mm thicker.
The 47 mm Fenix 9 Pro is 13.8 mm thick again, matching the Fenix 8. On the livestream Garmin said the 47 mm Pro is 16% thinner than the Fenix 8 Pro, which is the drop from 16 mm to 13.8 mm. Adding inReach does not change Fenix 9 Pro thickness.

The 47 mm Fenix 9 Pro has a full titanium body. The Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro used a fiber-reinforced polymer body with a metal front and rear plate. On Garmin’s numbers the weight barely moved: the 9 Pro inReach is 78g / 56g case only, the 8 Pro is 77g / 56g — one gram on the wrist, identical case weight. Against the Fenix 8 it depends which metal you own. Titanium Fenix 8 is 73g / 52g, so the 9 Pro is 5g heavier on the band and 4g heavier in the case. Stainless Fenix 8 is 80g / 59g, so the 9 Pro is 2g lighter on the band and 3g lighter in the case.

Battery is a slight step up at 47 mm. Smartwatch mode is the clean row: Fenix 9 Pro is up to 18 days, Fenix 8 Pro is 15 days (8 always-on), Fenix 8 is 16 days (7 always-on). Garmin has not published always-on display battery numbers for the Fenix 9 Pro. That is three days over the 8 Pro and two over the Fenix 8. Low-power / saver is 24 / 19 / 23 days. Max-battery GPS — the closest named pair, because Garmin renamed the 9 Pro activity modes — is 87 / 70 / 81 hours. Expedition is 18 / 14 / 17 days.

51 mm: a 1.5-inch display, not a return to Fenix 8 thickness
The 51 mm is the size that actually changes the screen. Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro 51 mm both used a 1.4-inch 454 × 454 panel with extra bezel. The Fenix 9 Pro 51 mm is 1.5 inches, 466 × 466 — the largest Fenix display Garmin has put on a watch.
Thickness does not snap back to the Fenix 8 the way it does at 47 mm. The 51 mm Fenix 8 was 14.7 mm. The 8 Pro went to 16.5 mm. The 9 Pro is 15.8 mm — 0.7 mm thinner than the 8 Pro, still 1.1 mm thicker than the Fenix 8. Same rule as the rest of the lineup: inReach does not add thickness.

The 51 mm 9 Pro is the heavier watch. Garmin lists it at 99g / 73g case only. The 8 Pro is 90g / 65g — 9g more on the band, 8g more in the case — which is the cost of a full titanium case plus the larger panel. Versus Fenix 8 titanium (92g / 64g) the 9 Pro is 7g heavier on the band. Versus stainless (102g / 74g) it is 3g lighter on the band.

Expedition is 31 / 24 / 31 days — tied with the Fenix 8, seven days over the 8 Pro.

43 mm: the first Pro in this size
There was no Fenix 8 Pro in 43 mm. The small watch skipped the LTE / inReach generation entirely. The comparison at this size is Fenix 9 Pro inReach against the Fenix 8 AMOLED only.
That is the story at this size: the 43 mm finally gets the Pro case and the optional radios, with the same features as the 47 mm and 51 mm. Thickness is 13.3 mm versus 13.8 mm on the Fenix 8 — half a millimeter thinner. The display stays 1.3 inches, 416 × 416 on both. QuickFit is 20 mm, same as the Fenix 8 43 mm.
Weight is close to the titanium Fenix 8. The 9 Pro is 62g / 45g. Titanium Fenix 8 is 60g / 44g — 2g heavier on the band, 1g in the case. Stainless Fenix 8 is 66g / 50g, so the 9 Pro is 4g lighter on the band.
Smartwatch battery does not move. Both watches are up to 10 days. The Fenix 8 splits that as 4 days always-on; the 9 Pro listing does not publish an always-on number. Low power / saver is 15 days on both. Max-battery GPS is 50 hours versus 49. Expedition is 10 days on both. Storage is the one hard jump: 64 GB versus 32 GB.

MIP Solar: same Pro, different panel
Garmin also sells the Fenix 9 Pro as MIP Solar in 47 mm and 51 mm, with the same software and hardware features outside of the display and solar charging.
There is no 43 mm MIP. Power Sapphire and a solar ring replace the AMOLED’s sapphire and 3,000-nit panel. The MIP screens are smaller and much lower resolution: 1.3 inches, 260 × 260 at 47 mm versus the AMOLED’s 1.4-inch 454 × 454, and 1.4 inches, 280 × 280 at 51 mm versus the AMOLED’s 1.5-inch 466 × 466.
You also give back some of the thinness. The 47 mm MIP is 15.8 mm and 84g (63g case) versus 13.8 mm and 78g (56g case) on the 47 mm AMOLED — 2 mm thicker and 6g heavier. The 51 mm MIP is 16.6 mm and 102g (77g case) versus 15.8 mm and 99g (73g case) — 0.8 mm thicker and 3g heavier. The 51 mm MIP is 0.1 mm thicker than the Fenix 8 Pro 51 mm. Both 51 mm Pros use 26 mm QuickFit.

MIP is easier to read in sunlight, and some people just prefer it. One of the biggest benefits of MIP Solar is the battery life. At 47 mm, smartwatch mode goes from 18 days on AMOLED to 21 days, or 34 with solar. Low power is 24 days versus 37 / 119 with solar. Max-battery GPS is 87 hours versus 132 / 740 with solar. Expedition is 18 days versus 30 / 68 with solar.
At 51 mm the gap is smaller without sun: AMOLED is 31 days, MIP is 30 days — one day less — then 57 days with solar. Low power is 42 versus 52 / 291 with solar. Max-battery GPS is 151 hours versus 186 / 1,000 with solar. Expedition is 31 days versus 42 / 124 with solar. Garmin’s solar figures assume all-day wear with 3 hours a day outside in 50,000 lux.

Case, glass, and a brighter AMOLED
Every Fenix 9 Pro has a full titanium body and a titanium bezel, with sapphire on AMOLED and Power Sapphire on MIP Solar. The Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro used a fiber-reinforced polymer body with a metal front and rear plate — the 8 Pro already had a titanium bezel, sapphire, and leak-proof buttons, and the Fenix 8 bezel was stainless or titanium with Gorilla Glass or sapphire. ComfortFit fabric bands are new on the 9 Pro, and the LED flashlight keeps its white and red modes on all Fenix 9 models — what’s new is a green mode on the 9 Pro, made to preserve night vision.
Brightness is the display change that applies at every size. The Fenix 9 Pro AMOLED is rated at up to 3,000 nits. The Fenix 8 and 8 Pro rows are just “AMOLED.” On the livestream Garmin said the Fenix 9 AMOLED is twice as bright as the Fenix 8. The 47 mm panel stays 1.4 inches; the 43 mm stays 1.3 inches. Only the 51 mm grows.

Connectivity: new versus the Fenix 8, not versus the 8 Pro
If you are on a Fenix 8, the radio stack is the upgrade — and at 43 mm it is brand new, because that size never had an 8 Pro. Fenix 8 is Bluetooth, ANT+, and Wi-Fi. Fenix 8 Pro already had LTE and satellite, two-way messaging, LTE LiveTrack, interactive SOS, and location check-ins.
The Fenix 9 Pro inReach keeps that 8 Pro stack and adds satellite weather and Garmin Locate. The non-inReach Fenix 9 Pro is the same watch without those subscription radios.

On the livestream Garmin also talked about a new mapping engine — panning 30% faster than the Fenix 8, round-trip routing 40% faster than the Fenix 8 Pro — and an enhanced stamina curve. Those do not show up as new yes/no rows, because the older watches already list maps and realtime stamina. The optical HR sensor stays Elevate Gen 5.
Price
The 43 mm and 47 mm Fenix 9 Pro inReach are listed at $1,199.99 and up, and the 51 mm at $1,299.99 and up. A specific 51 mm leather inReach SKU was showing at $1,399.99 this morning. The Fenix 8 and 8 Pro rows still show sale prices.

The Fenix 9 Pro comes in AMOLED and MIP Solar at 47 mm and 51 mm. Same software. The Solar watch is significantly thicker and the screen is smaller. Battery life is longer on Solar, as expected, but in smartwatch mode the lives without solar are similar.
At 47 mm that thickness gap is the one you will feel: 13.8 mm versus 15.8 mm (14.5% thicker). The MIP Solar is as thick as the 51 mm AMOLED. At 51 mm Solar is still thicker, 15.8 mm versus 16.6 mm (5% thicker).

Garmin officially launched the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro this morning in its “Play Harder” livestream. The watches are already on Garmin.com, with orders opening on August 28.
Garmin added some new software features such as Epic Groups, an enhanced stamina curve, rucking and rowing updates. However, this generation is more about materials and usability: a full-titanium Pro that returns to Fenix 8 thickness, a brighter AMOLED, 64 GB of storage, and a mapping engine that is actually faster to pan and route. The optical heart rate sensor stays Elevate Gen 5.



The lineup
Garmin presented the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro together. The Pro is the new full-titanium watch. Garmin also confirmed a MIP Solar version, plus speaker and microphone on the lineup, but it did not walk through Solar specs during the stream. LTE, satellite, and inReach came later as their own segment. On Garmin’s site after the event, inReach was listed as an option on the Pro rather than as a separate model name.
A 51 mm Fenix 9 Pro with inReach was showing at $1,399.99 shortly after the stream. The 47 mm Pro inReach is listed at $1,199.99 and up.






Fenix 9 Pro: titanium, thinner, sapphire
Industrial Design Director Mike Barczak said the Pro case was started from the ground up with a new process using nano molding technology, which let Garmin make the titanium harder and thinner. The hard number from the stream: the 47 mm Pro is 16% thinner than the Fenix 8 Pro. That brings it back to Fenix 8 thickness — 13.8 mm — after the Fenix 8 Pro had gone to 16 mm. Every Fenix 9 Pro, with or without inReach, is the same thickness.
The Pro is an all-titanium design with leak-proof buttons and a sapphire lens. The sensor guard now comes in more colors — orange, titanium, and black were on the bench. New ComfortFit fabric bands use the QuickFit connector and are meant to look seamless. White and red flashlight modes are on all models.



Display, storage, and faster maps
Garmin called it the largest Fenix display ever: a 1.5-inch AMOLED on the bigger models, confirmed specifically for the Fenix 9 Pro 51 mm. At 47 mm the panel stays 1.4 inches. The AMOLED panels are twice as bright as the Fenix 8 — Garmin’s compare now lists the Pro at up to 3,000 nits. Every Fenix 9 watch has 64 GB of memory, twice the Fenix 8.
The usability change a lot of people will feel is maps. Both the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro get a new mapping engine. Map panning is 30% faster than the Fenix 8. Calculating a round-trip route is 40% faster than the Fenix 8 Pro. Zoom is more fluid between zoom levels.
Garmin said its maps are fully routable contour systems with real-time routing, and that this works without a phone. Next Fork scans ahead for junctions. ClimbPro uses elevation data to plan climbs and manage effort. PacePro uses structured training and elevation to recommend paces.



Elevate Gen 5 stays
Garmin did not move the Fenix lineup to a new optical heart rate sensor. The Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro stick with Elevate Gen 5, the same generation as the Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro.
Garmin Epic Groups
Product manager Andrew Perkins introduced Garmin Epic Groups as a way to group multiple activities into one story — across a day, or across days, weeks, and months. An Epic can run for up to 92 days, tracking cumulative distance, calories, and more the whole time, plus sleep, recovery, and HRV status.
Epics include summaries and maps in Garmin Connect. You can add old activities after the fact and share an Epic with friends. Garmin showed a Tour du Mont Blanc timeline with notes, photos, and stacked days.
Stamina, rucking, and rowing
Ultrarunner Cat Bradley announced enhanced stamina tracking with a curve and personal zones, plus maximal tolerable duration and distance in Connect. The stamina curve uses all of your training, changes over time, and gives predictions across any distance. Personal stamina zones are meant to help you pace yourself.
Rucking now better accounts for the impact of loaded training. Garmin said it partnered with GORUCK on that work. Rowing now has a VO2 max.
LTE, inReach, and LiveTrack
Ben Schnitz, Garmin’s LTE technology lead, framed the connectivity work as a “relentless” pursuit. The radios sit on the same LTE and inReach stack Garmin launched on the Fenix 8 Pro. What Garmin showed:
- LiveTrack is more detailed — live distance, time, pace, elevation, charts, and splits while someone is still out.
- With LTE, position and messages can be shared with other Garmin Messenger users. An eye icon in the thread shows LiveTrack status instantly.
- Texts can be sent to pre-selected contacts.
- Weather can come direct to the watch over LTE or satellite. You have to request it.
- Interactive SOS messaging to Garmin Response is included, the same as on the Fenix 8 Pro.
- You get 12 months of free emergency messaging after suspending your plan.

Hours before Garmin’s “Play Harder” livestream premieres, the entire Fenix 9 lineup has leaked. A large set of official product images surfaced early this morning, and Garmin’s own Taiwan site briefly listed the watches before the pages were taken offline. The images and listings were also shared with Garmin Rumors.



The Taiwan page settles the lineup structure. There are three tiers — Fenix 9, Fenix 9 Pro in AMOLED or Solar, and Fenix 9 Pro inReach in AMOLED or Solar — in line with earlier reporting. The page also shows the 43 mm Pro carrying product number 010-04335, the same SKU family this weekend’s retailer leak pointed to for the 43 mm Pro, and lists colors including black, cream, fog gray, and coral pink for 43 mm, with maple orange, black, and graphite for 47 mm and 51 mm.
The product images match the set we published Monday, which we could not verify at the time. The standard Fenix 9 carries the same design as the Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro, with a metal bezel and back around a two-tone case, while the Pro models show full-metal construction. The caseback shots also appear to confirm Garmin’s Elevate Gen 5 heart rate sensor carrying over, rather than a new Gen 6.

Garmin finally communicated the livestream via email today, under the title “The Ultimate Launch Awaits,” promising “a launch that’s as striking as it is strong.” We will be live streaming updates on garminrumors.com starting at 7:00 AM ET.
Two years ago, Garmin ran its first livestream — an August 27, 2024 event to launch the Fenix 8. A similarly timed event, combined with everything below, makes it pretty clear tomorrow is the Fenix 9 release, even though Garmin has not confirmed it. This is our final roundup of everything we know or speculate, drawn from our reporting over the past weeks.
The lineup
The picture that has formed is the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro launching together, unlike last generation, when the Fenix 8 arrived first, and the Fenix 8 Pro followed more than a year later.
Later reporting split that further into three Fenix 9 models: a standard Fenix 9, a Fenix 9 Pro, and a Fenix 9 Pro inReach. On Fenix 8, “Pro” meant LTE and built-in inReach. This time those radios look like they sit on the Pro inReach tier (not the Pro tier). What the middle Pro adds became clearer on Monday: the Pro tier is said to move to a full titanium body, which we cover below.
The standard Fenix 9 is not expected to offer MIP displays — it will be AMOLED only. MIP Solar looks like it stays on the Pro tiers, next to AMOLED. Signs also point to a 43mm option across the tiers — the Fenix 8 Pro skipped 43mm entirely, a miss that drew complaints — though 43mm will launch in AMOLED variants only, and not MIP.



There have also been numerous hints of an Enduro 4, including a string that showed up in Garmin Connect in June. When Garmin launched the Fenix 8 in 2024, the Enduro 3 arrived right alongside it, so a similar outcome would make sense. If the Enduro 4 is not released tomorrow, expect it in the weeks that follow.
Every SKU leaked — then vanished
Over the weekend, 18 Fenix 9 listings were spotted on Czech retailer SkiAndBike. The listings had no photos or descriptions — just names, Garmin-style product numbers, and Czech koruna prices, with every watch marked unavailable. By Sunday morning, the retailer had pulled every page.
The product numbers split into two families: base Fenix 9 models are 010-04761 through 010-04763 (43, 47, and 51 mm), while the Pro and Pro inReach models run 010-04335 through 010-04339. The leaked retailer’s titles and labeling were a bit sloppy, and some models were mislabeled, so we grouped every SKU and color variant as best we could:

Prices ran from 24,490 Kč (~$1,170) for the 43 mm base model to 32,990 Kč (~$1,570) for the 51 mm Pro AMOLED inReach in Carbon. Those are conversions at about 21 Kč per dollar and include Czech VAT — they are not U.S. MSRP — but if they are indicative, they point to another price bump for Garmin’s flagship tier.
A few reads from the 18 configurations: there was no 43 mm Solar listing. Four of the six 43 mm watches were labeled inReach, which would put satellite messaging on the smallest case size for the first time. And there were no Enduro 4 or Fenix E 2 pages, though that does not take those watches off the table. Additionally, there was no Pro Solar model without inReach, though we still do expect that to launch.
A titanium Pro, a bigger 51 mm display, and Fenix 8-level pricing
On Monday, we reported that information shared with Garmin Rumors points to a design split inside the lineup. The Fenix 9 Pro variants are said to get a new design with full titanium body construction, removing the plastic from the case entirely, which would be a first for the Fenix line. The standard Fenix 9 is said to carry over the Fenix 8 construction of a metal bezel and back around a fiber-reinforced polymer body. As before, the inReach label determines satellite and LTE connectivity, and no base Fenix 9 model is expected to have inReach.
The same information points to the 51 mm Fenix 9 finally getting a 1.5-inch display. On the Fenix 8, the 51 mm model used the same 1.4-inch panel as the 47 mm watch and simply carried thicker bezels. We are also hearing that U.S. pricing will be close to — or match — current Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro pricing.



The leaked product images — if they are real
Later on Monday, a set of finished-looking Fenix 9 product images surfaced, published by GameraSnap, covering 10 pictured variants across all three sizes. We could not verify the original source of the files, and we are still not certain the images are real, so they should not be taken as the final design.



That said, they fit everything above: the pictured variants line up with the color names from the SKU leak, the standard models show dark, Fenix 8-style case sides, and the Pro models show exposed metal along the flanks and button guards, consistent with the titanium construction we were told about. The watch faces display Chinese text, which suggests the assets may have originated from Garmin marketing materials prepared for China.
Sales to Clear Inventory?
The current Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro, and Enduro 3 lineup is on sale right now, likely to clear inventory of the prior flagships ahead of this big launch.
The processor Garmin is due to update
Beyond what those posts already laid out, we do not have hardware information on the next Fenix. We do not know if there will be a new design, improved battery, or what the new features will be.
What we do know is the current flagship is overdue for a faster chip. The Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro use the same main processor as the Fenix 7, which launched in January 2022 — about four and a half years ago. That chip is NXP’s i.MX RT595 (marked MRT595SFF0C).



Users have been saying the maps feel it. In a Fenix 8 map-lag thread, one owner wrote there is “very terrible lag when I scroll maps.” Another replied that this is “primarily a hardware problem: The watch uses the same (slow) CPU as the Fenix 7.” A third said they “would not have bought this watch if [they] had known it was the same old processor,” and that it was “even slower than my old Fenix 7 with a MIP display.” Someone who had already lived with it on an Epix 2 called the Fenix 8 AMOLED “same slowness,” and “a hardware limitation. Battery life over speed.”
If Garmin stays with NXP, that line has a successor: the i.MX RT700. Versus the RT595 it adds a second Cortex-M33 (up to 325 MHz plus a 250 MHz sense core, against one 200 MHz core today), more on-chip SRAM (7.5 MB vs 5 MB), a faster 2.5D GPU, and an eIQ Neutron NPU. For the person wearing the watch, that could mean maps that pan and redraw without stutter, menus and routing that respond instantly, and headroom for smarter on-device features like AI-driven training insights—without the battery-life penalty of a phone-class chip. Maps on the current watches run out of that 5 MB SRAM; more memory and a faster GPU is the obvious place a next Fenix would feel different. None of that is confirmed for Fenix 9.
Elevate, and no MicroLED signal
A new Elevate Gen. 6 heart rate sensor is possible, but not a guarantee. Garmin has released a new Elevate generation about every two years. Gen. 5 arrived with the Fenix 7 Pro in mid-2023. That is now a three-year gap.
There is no clear evidence as to what a new sensor would add, but the competition suggests an obvious candidate: blood pressure. Whoop already delivers cuff-calibrated blood pressure estimates, Apple Watch has an FDA-cleared hypertension notification feature, and Google just added blood pressure trends to the Pixel Watch 5. A Gen. 6 sensor that reads blood pressure at the wrist would close the most visible sensor gap in the lineup.
There is currently no mention of a MicroLED display on the next Fenix, and there was no MicroLED model among the 18 leaked SKUs. The read is that Garmin will stick to AMOLED and MIP. When the Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED launched, enthusiasts were excited by the promise of brightness and better battery life — and while it did become the brightest smartwatch ever at the time, it added significant thickness and cut battery life, all at a steep price.
MARQ after the volume launch
The MARQ collection is Garmin’s premium-materials line — luxury watches built on the Fenix technology of their era. We are confident it continues: a MARQ (Gen 3) built on Fenix 9 tech is in the works. It will include many of the familiar variants: Athlete, Adventurer, Aviator, Commander, Golfer, but the release is not expected on Tuesday.
Garmin usually leads with the high-volume Fenix, then follows with MARQ once the platform is set. Gen 3 is expected in the weeks after. The MARQ (Gen 2) Captain page on Garmin.com now 404s, and that model is no longer for sale, and outside the US MARQ availability across all variants is quite limited. Some users have also pointed out that if the Fenix 9 Pro really does move to full titanium construction, it would bring the Fenix line noticeably closer to MARQ’s look and feel at a much lower price.

The pictured watches span the standard AMOLED, Pro AMOLED, and Pro Solar models expected across the lineup. Where the files originally came from is not known, and the watch faces display Chinese text, which suggests the assets may have originated from Garmin marketing materials prepared for China.
While the source is unknown, the pictured variants line up with the color names from the SKU listings that leaked on Czech retailer SkiAndBike over the weekend. Matching the product images against our list of every SKU and color variant produces the following alignment:

Information shared with Garmin Rumors points to a clear design split inside the Fenix 9 lineup: the Fenix 9 Pro moves to a full titanium body, while the standard Fenix 9 keeps the Fenix 8 construction.



According to what we have been told, the Fenix 9 Pro variants get a new design with full titanium body construction, removing the plastic from the case entirely. That would be a first for the Fenix line, where even the premium models have always built around a polymer housing.
The standard Fenix 9 is said to carry over the Fenix 8 design: a metal bezel up front and a metal back, with a fiber-reinforced polymer body between them.
As with the leaked listings, the inReach label is what determines whether a watch gets satellite and LTE connectivity — and no base Fenix 9 model is expected to have inReach.
One more detail shared with us: the 51 mm Fenix 9 may finally get a 1.5-inch display. On the Fenix 8, the 51 mm model used the same 1.4-inch panel as the 47 mm watch and simply carried thicker bezels. A panel that actually scales with the case would be a meaningful change for the largest size.



We are also hearing that U.S. pricing will be close to — or match — current Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro pricing.
None of this is confirmed by Garmin. With the Play Harder livestream set for Tuesday at 7:00 AM ET, we should not have to wait long.
