Alongside the Fenix 8 launch tomorrow, we are expecting the Fenix E. There’s not much that’s particularly exciting about this model, as it seems to be more of a rebranded Epix Gen 2 than a fully new product. The Fenix E is designed to appeal to users looking for a Fenix experience without the premium price tag, but this comes with some compromises. As you will see, it’s more about what it doesn’t have than what it does have.

Size and Screen:

The Fenix E will be available exclusively in a 47mm case size, with a 1.3-inch display. This size and screen configuration is identical to the 47mm non-sapphire Epix Gen 2 and Fenix 7. The model does not adopt the slimmer bezels and larger screens that the 47mm Fenix 8 series adopts. It is expected to have an AMOLED display and will not have a solar option.

Materials and Design:

The Fenix E will feature only one configuration option which includes a stainless steel bezel and a fiber-reinforced polymer case, nothing new here compared to older models. There will be no sapphire/titanium options.

Older Technology:

A significant area where the Fenix E shows its cost-saving measures is in the heart rate sensor. It retains the older Elevate Gen 4 heart rate sensor, which, while still works, is a generation behind the more accurate Elevate Gen 5 sensor found in the Epix (Gen 2) Pro, Fenix 7 Pro, and upcoming Fenix 8.

No New Hardware:

Unlike the Fenix 8 series, the Fenix E does not include a built-in microphone or speaker, which means it lacks the voice-controlled features. Additionally, there are no new diving related features or sensors.

Pricing:

The Fenix E is expected to debut at $799.99, making it a more accessible option in the Fenix lineup, but with the trade-offs mentioned above. This price range puts it on par with the currently for sale standard Epix Gen 2. It’s clear that the Fenix E is positioned as a budget-conscious alternative rather than a flagship device.

Summary of Models:

  • Garmin Fenix E Smartwatch (47mm) Stainless Steel Slate Gray/Black – 010-03025-01 – $799.99
  • Garmin Fenix E Smartwatch (47mm) Stainless Steel Black – 010-03025-00 – $799.99

However, in recent years, they’ve introduced AMOLED displays to most of their smartwatch lines. This shift has created the need for users to choose between the energy efficiency of MIP displays and the vibrant picture of AMOLED displays, though both options come with tradeoffs.

Yeah, why would you want this instead of Epix Pro g2? The only reason would be if you REALLY want that new UI.
