The excitement surrounding the Garmin Fenix 8 series leak continues to grow. A search for the SKU from the initial leak has revealed a listing on an Icelandic authorized Garmin retailer’s website, garminbudin.is, providing more insights into the upcoming models.

New Information Uncovered

The search for SKU 010-02903-00 led to a listing for the “Fenix 8 – 43mm AMOLED” on the Icelandic retailer’s site. This finding could potentially confirm several speculated changes in Garmin’s product lineup:

  • AMOLED Displays in the Fenix Line: The mention of a 43mm AMOLED Fenix 8 suggests that the Fenix series will indeed feature AMOLED displays. This development might indicate that Garmin is moving towards integrating AMOLED screens into the Fenix line, which traditionally used MIP (Memory In Pixel) displays.
  • Impact on the Epix Line: This discovery fuels speculation that the Epix line, which is essentially a Fenix with an AMOLED screen will likely be phased out.
  • Introduction of Fenix E with MIP Screens: The earlier leak’s mention of a Fenix E, which was lower priced than other Fenix models, suggests this variant could feature MIP screens. This would cater to the loyalists who prefer the longer battery life and better sunlight readability that MIP screens provide. It is unclear if the ‘E’ represents Enduro and this watch would replace the Enduro line, which is currently Garmin’s longest-lasting watch.

This potential strategy by Garmin to merge the Enduro, Fenix, and Epix lines into a single streamlined series makes a lot of sense from both a business and consumer perspective. By offering both AMOLED and MIP screen options within the Fenix 8 series, Garmin could significantly reduce the number of SKUs, simplifying their high-end product lines. This consolidation also aligns with the current market trends, which show an increasing demand for OLED screens on fitness trackers. Below is a list of the leaked products and SKUs:

  • 010-02903-00 (F8 43mm Silver/White Stone),
  • 010-02904-00 (F8 47mm),
  • 010-02905-00 (F8 51mm),
  • 010-03025-01 (E 47mm grey/black),
  • 010-03025-01 (E 47mm stainless steel)

However, in recent years, they’ve introduced AMOLED displays to most of their smartwatch lines. This shift has created the need for users to choose between the energy efficiency of MIP displays and the vibrant picture of AMOLED displays, though both options come with tradeoffs.
